Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of the Galactic Heroes) - The 150-year-long stalemate between the two interstellar superpowers, the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance, comes to an end when a new generation of leaders arises: the idealistic military genius Reinhard von Lohengramm, and the FPA's reserved historian, Yang Wenli. As ideologies clash amidst the war's many casualties, the two strategic masterminds must ask themselves what the real reason behind their battle is. 銀河英雄伝説 - 宇宙暦776年/帝国暦467年、銀河帝国において、貴族とは名ばかりの貧家に生まれたラインハルト・フォン・ミューゼルは、敬愛する姉のアンネローゼが皇帝の後宮に納められたことで、ゴールデンバウム王朝への憎悪を抱き、彼女を取戻すだけの力を得るために親友のジークフリード・キルヒアイスとともに帝国軍幼年学校に入学して軍人となる。やがて、腐敗したゴールデンバウム王朝を打倒し「宇宙を手に入れる」という野望を抱いたラインハルトは、その天才的な軍事的才能とキルヒアイスの補佐によって武勲を重ね、驚異的なスピードで昇進していく。ローエングラム伯爵家の家名を継ぎ、ラインハルト・フォン・ローエングラムとなった彼は、ついに20歳にして帝国元帥に就く。後に「常勝の英雄」「獅子帝」と呼ばれた彼のもとには、現体制に不満を抱く若き才能が集まり、腐敗した体制のもと既得権益をむさぼる貴族からの反発の中にあって確固たる勢力を確立する。 一方、自由惑星同盟では、本来は歴史研究家志望であったものの、両親の死により歴史を無料で学ぶ方便として士官学校に入学し、不本意ながらも軍人になったヤン・ウェンリー(宇宙暦767年生まれ)が、本人の意思とは裏腹に歴史の表舞台に担ぎ上げられようとしていた。ヤンは暴力機関としての軍隊を嫌い、退役生活を夢見ながらも、その軍事的才能によって望まぬ武勲を重ね、やがて提督に抜擢された。後に「不敗の名将」「魔術師ヤン」「奇跡のヤン」と評されたヤンは、母国の政治体制の腐敗を嘆き、戦争への懐疑を抱きながらも数々の戦いに身を投じることになる。
